Lacking Nothing

It is so hard to believe that in just a couple months, we will have been here in York for a year. In this time, I have worked two different jobs, we have moved from a rental to a home we are now mortgaging, and we have had to get rid of two vehicles due to one catching on fire and one involved in an accident. Car troubles seem to be the staple for us this year. We have had to be towed 5 times, we have driven 4 different loners, and our 01’ Durango has been worked on at least 5 times. In fact, I was rejoicing several days ago that we lasted 2 months without any car problems!

“The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.”
I do not write this update to throw a pity party and grovel over such petty problems, but only to relay the glorious fact that almost every time we have had an issue with a car or an unexpected bill is thrown in, without us even asking for help, God uses one person or an entire church to send us money at the exact time that we need it! Most often it is the same amount that we need to take care of the issue! When I was in college, I worked in the school cafeteria for five dollars an hour. There were times where I wondered how I would pay off my school bill, but I remember just before a morning class, I read Psalms 34. Verse 10 stood out to me, because it states,

Almost instantly the statement there is no lack with God popped into my mind. I was renewed with assurance that God would faithfully provide for my needs. I look back and rejoice over how many times He blessed me with a vehicle, a job, and many others things that I needed through the years. In the same year that I graduated, I was able to pay off my entire school bill! Christ reiterated the same glorious truth that is found in Psalms 34:10, when He declared, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.(Matthew 6:33)

Stephanie and I have now become “tent-makers” in the ministry. We are both working and neither of our jobs promise a fixed income. The cost of living is much higher here and we have added many bills that before, we didn’t have to worry about. However, at every crossroad and trial, we have experienced the faithfulness and goodness of God.

This past year, I was able to baptize my oldest son, pray with my younger son to be saved and see my daughter ask God to save her, during a backyard Bible club we hosted in participation with Child Evangelism Fellowship! Along with ministering at Good News FWB, we had the opportunity to encourage a couple starting a Hispanic church in York and aid them in fixing up their church building. If all I did was groan over finances, I would miss the blessings and opportunities that God gives me each day.

Finally, we all must realize that peace from the pressures of this life is magnified only to those who SEEK God and His Kingdom. A heart that seeks God’s presence will most certainly experience His provision. In the midst of the hardships and hustle, may we always strive to know God. Because, in our seeking, we start to realize that all we truly need is Him. Truly, there is no lack with God.

Star Light

I remember, when I was a child, my brother and I wanted to camp out in our front yard. We even talked our friends into joining us. We begged our parents to let us sleep out under the stars without a tent, because it would not rain that evening. It was somewhat foolish, but we were not thinking about the insects, strong winds, or even the morning dew. We just thought it would be fun to sleep outside. I think we lasted a solid hour in the dark, but once the cold wind blew and the mosquitoes landed, our imagination dissipated and we ran back indoors. Though we didn't stay out long, I do remember the stars that night. They were unusually bright and seemed to crowd the sky more than any other night. I don't think I will ever “grow out of” being in awe over the beauty of stars. I don't believe King David did either. He wrote in Psalms 19, “ The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky displays what his hands have made. One day tells a story to the next. One night shar...

Madam Darkshade continued

My most despicable Marah, The abyss of my heart has grown beyond measure! Everything your sister has told me about your efforts - how undeniably successful they are - is just another reminder as to why I always saw myself in you. So, that foolish grungy has finally declared himself as bishop. Naturally, during their meeting, there was tremendous conflict and a choosing of sides. Classic. It reminds me of the struggle at Corinth, when so many fought over who was on Paul's side and who was on Apollos' side. Of course, you are much too young to know what I am referring to! Now, I must remind you that there is still much work to be done. Divide and conquer. The ecclessia is split, therefore, waste no time instilling pride and hatred. I know you are enticing our self exalted puppet to start his own assembly, which is good, but before he does, through slander and lies, he must cripple those who withstood him. Make him feel betrayed. As if he were a great captain who ...

The Devil Wears a Tie (Continued)

Of all the ways the devil will tempt a person, catering to one's vanity is his favorite means to get them to fall. After all, before the inception of time, he also succumbed to pride. He believed he had an inward right to the heavenly throne, and through promulgating the potential of self exaltation to other angelic beings, he led a massive insurrection against the Almighty. There was absolutely no chance of a “successful rebellion”, but reason often dissipates when one is steeped in prideful bitterness. Simply put, the devil began to hate God, for being, God. This attitude of entitlement parades itself in every heart. We may be able to mask it for a while, but given enough hardships and displeasure, we often become the corrupted clay, vilifying the ways of God and distrusting the commands of His word (Isaiah 29:16). The apostle Paul's warning to believers at Ephesus was,  “Don't give the devil any opportunity to work  (Ephesians 4:27).” Yet, in the garden of Eden, we ...
