The Marvelous Message

Just a couple weeks ago, I took my kids to the children's museum in Tuscaloosa. They have several interesting exhibits, but there was one that day that my daughter insisted we see. It was just a small classroom that looked like it had been plucked out of the 1930s. Of course, she was to be the teacher and I had to sit on a bench for toddlers, acting like an eager pupil. While I listened to her tell me about the “ABQs” and bears, I noticed some old school books that were on display. I managed to grab one, without getting scolded by the teacher, and started to thumb threw it. It was the revised edition of  McGuffy's Third Eclectic Reader,  which was   published in the 1920s. It was filled with different stories and lessons, but a certain poem, entitled  Remember,  caught my attention. Indeed, I was somewhat taken aback over what it stated: Remember, Child, remember, That God is in the sky; That He looks down on all we do. With an ever-wakeful eye. ...

I remember, when I was a child, my brother and I wanted to camp out in our front yard. We even talked our friends into joining us. We begged our parents to let us sleep out under the stars without a tent, because it would not rain that evening. It was somewhat foolish, but we were not thinking about the insects, strong winds, or even the morning dew. We just thought it would be fun to sleep outside. I think we lasted a solid hour in the dark, but once the cold wind blew and the mosquitoes landed, our imagination dissipated and we ran back indoors. Though we didn't stay out long, I do remember the stars that night. They were unusually bright and seemed to crowd the sky more than any other night. Perhaps, we want to “have our cake and eat it too” We must learn that to be a disciple is to bear the cross of Christ To further the gospel through a holy testimony and a faithful life

Genesis 2:7 states, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. ” (KJV) There is an outlandish evolutionary theory that has been postulated among various scientists for years. It is the idea that life began on earth by some advanced alien race. Somehow these beings, through their impressive technology, started the ball rolling for life to begin. Some would call this theory audacious, but I simply call it an utterly foolish belief. Obviously, the question then is raised, if there were super intelligent aliens who seeded life on earth, then how were they created as well? The fact is that life began with Jesus Christ, because He is the Life! Proverbs 25:25 states,  “As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.”  Most Americans do not realize the privilege in simply having clean, cold water accessible in their home. When I fill a glass of water, to my shame, I hardly ever think about the millions of people who have died because they have no reliable source of water. Of course, in verse 25, Solomon was illustrating a bigger point than just quenching someone’s physical thirst. He revealed that “good news” can be refreshing and reviving to one’s soul. Do you remember what Jesus said to the Samaritan woman by the well? He declared, “ But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life  (John 4:14).” There are millions of lives spiritually thirsty.
