Who you callin' lazy?

A few days ago, I was watching a debate on the existence of God between John Lennox (a Christian and professor of Mathematics at Oxford University) and Peter Atkins (an atheist and professor of Chemistry at Oxford University). It was a very different setting than usual debates in the sense that it was a “live” recording and there was no immediate audience to cater towards. This is what I like. A simple discussion without seeking to please and impress a crowd. It is clear that Richard Dawkins feeds off of a thronged setting. The same could be said of the late Christopher Hitchens.     Because the setting of the Lennox and Atkins debate was nothing short of simplified, I enjoyed it all the more. Indeed, Peter's usual look of nervousness and strain, was mostly gone. During their discussions, I noticed that Peter would continually use the word “lazy” to describe a person's belief in God. In his view, it is an apathetic appro

By Fighting or by Faith?

I have spent many years sitting under hard 'conservative' preaching where there has been a mile long list of do's and don't's and a standardized belief that the Christian life must be choosing what is good, better, and best. Here's an example.... Bob: You don't have a tie for service today? Tom: I am sorry, I did not know I was supposed to wear one. Bob: Well, it's the fact of what is good, better, and best! Tom: Oh, why is that? Bob: A tie is better. It makes you look distinguished. You don't want to look sloppy for God now do you? Tom: No. I suppose not. I just came to worship God. I did not know there was more involved. What kind of a tie should I wear to honor God? Bob: What kin.....well, um...you need one that matches the suit you should wear. Tom: I'm not good at matching, what if I don't have the right color. Will God be offended? Bob: Oh no! That is silly nonsense. So, Tom goes on his way. Buys himself

Heart Thoughts

In the past few months, there has been so much going on that I have, for some time, been unable to update my blog. I hope that later on my time will be better arranged to incorporate further updates. In the meantime, I would like to give you different personal thoughts that I had written down over the previous months. Many times, as I study the scriptures, I will write down spiritual statements and truths that God has been speaking to my heart about. I write the statement and the date it was written. Here is only a few of the many “heart” thoughts I have had over the years I have been preaching. “ All through your life you will be faced with the test of knocking yourself down from the center of the universe and making Him the focus of your heart's passion.” (05/12) “ I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will. (Acts13:22) It is understandable that this meant that David had a heart of purity, but the ‘after my own hear
